Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) tunnel with cryomodules

SLAC Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) accelerator tunnel.

SLAC Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) accelerator tunnel. This is the first section of the linear accelerator of the LCLS. This section uses cryogenic modules (in orange) in which superconducting cavities allow electrons to accelerate to nearly the speed of light. The cryogenic module achieve superconductivity by cooling down the niobium cavities to 2 kelvin.
